Seeds of Speaker’s Research Initiative (SRI) were sown on 6 April 2015 when the Hon’ble Speaker held a detailed discussion with several eminent persons and domain experts in the context of the capacity building of Members of Parliament. The underlying idea was to improve the quality of debate by making available to the Members high-end research inputs on matters of national and international importance.

Hon’ble Speaker also felt that such intellectual enrichment and stimulation would also help the legislature playing a more impactful and comprehensive oversight role over the myriad and increasingly complex governance and developmental activities of the executive.

After several formal and informal meetings and interactions of the core group, SRI was formally launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 23 July 2015.
