The Speaker’s Research Initiative (SRI) was inaugurated on 23rd July 2015 by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
In many interactions, our lawmakers have emphasized the pressing need for high-quality research inputs on important matters as also on legislative proposals so that they could contribute to the debates in a more meaningful and effective manner. SRI has been created with a view to ensure that our lawmakers are sufficiently enriched and empowered through knowledge, best possible research and intellectual stimulation.
I am glad to know that SRI has so far organised multiple events ranging from series of workshops and interactive sessions on topics such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Constitution of India, Unorganised Sector, Goods, and Services Tax, Drought, Drinking Water Management and Interlinking of Rivers, challenges in the Health and Education sectors to the first of its kind initiative in the parliamentary history of the country- the National Women Legislators Conference.
I sincerely hope that SRI would serve as a knowledge platform and would be instrumental in quenching Member’s thirst for knowledge on an array of issues like finance, politics, society, foreign affairs, trade and technology which merit parliamentary and national focus through its lecture series, workshops, interactive sessions, background papers etc. thereby, elevating the quality of debate to the level that the National Legislature of the largest democracy in the world deserves.
